Cambodia has the largest young population in Southeast Asia. One in five Cambodians is currently between the age of 15 and 24 and almost two thirds of the population being under the age of 30. All of the country's youth are second- and third-generation descendants of perpetrators or victims of the Khmer Rouge.

Many children and young people in Cambodia carry out work that is embedded in their families' daily lives; child labor is widely visible in Cambodia.
