In 2017, I spent just under a week in Tokyo, having not visited the city for a long time. My last trip (1985) had been over 35 years earlier. My preoccupation with Japan's photographers and film-makers (especially Nobuyoshi Araki, Daido Moriama and Nagisa Oshima) still gives me the feeling that part of my soul has never left Japan.
During my short stay in Tokyo's Ueno district, I took a series of photos with a little Fujifilm camera, thinking I'd soon be returning to Japan to do some serious reports with a professional camera. Then Covid hit and travelers were banned from entering the country for a long time.
